I have great pleasure to announce that on behalf of myself and publisher AMA Verlag my second book Beats & Pieces is now complete and available for purchase. This time around, rather than focusing on individual elements, it’s about compiling the ideas into ‘pieces’ or solos. This book is a comprehensive all-levels manual which will give the student a realistic insight to dynamics, groove building and embellishment.

“Over 150 realistic ‘rhythmical recipes’ for the contemporary drummer.”

Great news, my book The Working Drummer is going to be published by the German company AMA Verlag. This is the company that published Paul Westwood’s book The Bass Bible of which I played drums on in the 1990s. I’m obviously delighted with this positive news, it’s great to know that the results of an intense four year project will now reach a worldwide audience.

The final package consists of a 278 page book, an audio CD containing over 800 examples and a DVD featuring 7 demonstration videos, a far cry from the small handbook I began writing in 2009!

So what’s in the book? Pretty much everything you need to set you on the road as a day-to-day drummer in the 21st Century. This is all realistic, relevant and practical stuff. Musical genres covered include:

It's awesome! There's nothing like it that I've ever seen in one book / cd / dvd-rom package. It's an absolute bargain for the information contained in this book. Highly recommended for beginner / Intermediate / pro & drum teachers alike. Excellent work, John! - Michael Girard Hagerty Jr

Amazon Customer Review - ☆☆☆☆☆
As a mature age student I have collected a number of books on drumming over the years. This book is my favourite. It is easy to read with the pages well set out. The exercises and material in the book range from easy to quite advanced. Mr Trotter covers everything from Notation Theory, Time Signatures, Dynamics, Rhythm Exercises, Rudiments, 8th Note Rock Grooves, Hi-Hat Variations, Shuffle Variations, Swing/Jazz, Funk/R&B, World Grooves, Rock 'n' Roll, Brush Grooves, Cross Stick patterns and a section on Advanced Concepts. The accompanying CD is really useful allowing one to listen to Mr Trotter play all the material. Mr Trotter has a wealth of experience and it comes through in the practical nature of the book. The grooves in this book sound great once mastered. This book would be a drum teacher's dream teaching tool. No need to spend valuable time during the lesson writing down exercises. It’s all here, very well laid out. If you are a student and do not have access to a drum teacher you should be able to work through this book by yourself, particularly if you use the CD. I highly recommend this book for the beginner drummer as well as the more advanced. There is something in here for drummers at all levels. 260 pages of gold!
